Online Academies teaching Tradition Texts

Recently i was going through some online academies teaching tradition texts.I was amazed that technology has evolved to such level that an Ustad sitting thousands of miles away can teach you and grant you the full ijaza.

I looked into these western scholars profiles, except a few, others had studied very few text books that too intermediary texts of a particular subject, and were referred to as Shiekhs or Ustads. For example I looked into profile of a teacher who was an Ustad,he read Noorul Izah, a part of Quduri, and basic primers on Arabic grammar, and was granted an Ijaza. One Academy also offers a course which have final book in hanafi fiqh as 'Al-Hidaya' and gives full scholastic Ijaza to the person completing the course, this would enable him to write answers and give verdicts. They have Ijaza even in books like Tareekh'ulKhulafa!

I was just wondering how can a person with such a limited knowledge can be an Ustad or a Mufti?without exaggeration, we in India read texts many times more than them, still it takes 8-12 years to become a full fledged scholars. We cover a number of books in each subject, our teachers teach us such that we can easily cover the full book once teacher has taught a part of it.

I have been taught most of following texts under my honorable teacher,Yes a single teacher taught me the below subjects, this is called the true scholarship:

Arabic Grammer
1. Meezan Munsha'ib
2. Nahw Meer
3. Hidayatun Nahw
4. Sharah Jami(One of the hardest text)

Hanafi Fiqh:
1. Noorul Izaah
2. Hashiya Tahtawi ala Maraqi al falah Sharah Noorul Izah
2. Mukhtasarul Quduri
3. Sharah Waqaya
4. Kanzul Daqaiq
5. Hidaya

Usul ul Fiqh:
1. Usool us Shaashi
2. Noorul Anwar
3. Hussami

Tafseer:
1. Tafseer Jalalain
2. Tafseer Baidawi(One of the hardest text)
3. Tafseer Ibn-e-Kaseer

Usul-ul-Tafseer:
1. Al-Fauzul Kabeer fi Usul lil Tafseer
2. Uloom ul Quran

Hadees:
1. Sahih Bukhari
2. Sahih Muslim
3. Jame Tirmizi
4. Mishkat ul Masabeeh

Usul ul Hadees:
1. Nukhbatul fikr
2. Muqaddima Shiekh-e-Muhaqqiq

Aquaid:
1. Aqedatut Tahawi
2. Sharah Aquaid Nasafi
3. Nibras Sharah Sharah Aquaid

Students also undergo a rigorous course in Mantiq & Falasafa.Even after reading these many books a student is not allowed to issue the verdict until and unless he sits beside an experienced Mufti and study texts like Durre Mukhtar,Raddul Muhtar, Ash'habun Naza'ir,Badai us Sanai etc. along with training in verdict writing.

SadrushSharia Mufti Amjad Ali Aazmi said:Teaching Darse Nizami(Scholar Course) course doesn't makes a person scholar but it takes him to a level that he can independently read and understand the books.(Bahare Shariat Vol:4)

What i understood is, people in west totally rely upon the Ijaza, though in India,we are not given a formal ijaza but still the person coming out of these traditional madrasa have good command over almost all the branches of traditional sciences.

Though there are many examples, but i would quote the person with whom i had the honor to study my Scholar course.Mufti Sahab have proficiency in almost all the branches of theology.Ulema call him Shiekh-ul-Manqoolat o Ma'aqoolat'(Professor of Traditional and Logical sciences). He is remembers the exact ibarat of the textbooks, once he said joiking that he can pray taraveeh of Sharah Jami(One of the hardest book on Arabic Grammar)!

The other problem with these western Scholars/Academies is that, they don't have a clear idea of the difference between the Sunni & Deobandi group.A post at an Academy says Imam Ahmad Raza and Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi were great scholars and we should take benefit from both of their works. There are two things here, either they really don't know the real difference or they are just trying to curtain the real issues. In any of the case, the result may be devastating leading to loss of Imaan(Naa'uzuBillah).

The difference between Sunni & Deobandi group is not like the diffrence between the hanafi & shafi school of thought but its as grave as difference between Ahle Sunnat & Qadyani sect.Imam Ahmad Raza along with 33 Ulema of Makka Madina with 500 ulema of Indian subcontinent gave verdict regarding the infidility of Deobandis like Qasim Nanotwi,Rashid Ahmad Gangohi,Ashraf Ali Thanvi & Khaleel Ahmad Ambetwi. This fatwa wasn't based upon some minor issues as some of the people say, but it was due to insult full language used by these Deobandi ulema for ALLAH azzawajal & his Prophet Muhammed SallallahuAlaihWassalam.Full details can be found at Fatawa Hassamul Haramain(Imam Ahmad Raza) & Al-Deobandiyat(Hafiz-e-Millat Abdul Azeez Muhaddis Muradabadi)(www.razanw.org)

hence as per my view, these academies will only be able to teach the traditional texts without installing the true spirit of AhleSunnat and would lead to production of so called modern 'Shaikhs' who will be everything but not an Ahle Sunnat Scholar.Ulema often quote a hadees like
There will come a time, when people will come, they would read the Quran but it would not go beyond their throat, they will leave the iman as arrow leave the prey, they would be deviated and would make others deviate from true path, hence beware of them.

In India we say...

Neem Hakeem Khatra Jaan
Neem Mulla Khatra Imaan

Half doctors is threat to life
Half Scholar is threat to Iman

Not all western scholars are like that. They (my teachers)have graduated from deoband and are teaching in USA.
I am in third year of scholar course in US and I agree that what I learn is very little comapred to Alim/Alimas in India. But it's better than nothing. Due to culture here it's even harder to do this much.
